What gets recorded.

This is a personal site. No accounts, no comments, no newsletter, no third-party advertising, no profile of you assembled across visits. The only form of contact is a mailto link to my own inbox.

The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel keeps short-lived server access logs, including IP addresses, which are used for security and abuse prevention and discarded on a rolling basis. I do not see those logs in any aggregated or identifying form.

Two of the three analytics tools on the site are built by Vercel and are cookieless. Vercel Web Analytics records anonymised page views with country and device class. Speed Insights records anonymised Web Vitals (loading time, layout shift, input latency) so I know when the writing experience is degrading. Neither sets a cookie, builds a profile, nor follows you to other sites.

The third is Google Analytics 4. Unlike the Vercel tools it sets cookies and can feed a Google-side profile, so it runs only if you consent — a banner asks on your first visit, and nothing Google-related loads until you accept. It is a standalone property with no cross-domain link to any other site, and it runs in production only. Decline it and it never loads.

The lawful basis differs by tool. The two cookieless Vercel tools run on legitimate interest: they cannot identify you, so the bar is not consent. Google Analytics sets cookies, so it runs on consent — nothing loads until you accept, and you can change your mind whenever you like: .

If you email me, I keep the message in my inbox until I no longer need it or you ask me to delete it. I do not add the address to any list. I do not share it.

Search engines and link previewers (Google, Bing, LinkedIn, Slack, RSS readers) fetch the public pages of this site as part of how the open web works. Their behaviour is governed by their own policies, not mine.

Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, and objection, and a right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. For anything in scope of this site, the route is the email address below. Most requests are answered the same week.
